The Max Planck Institute for Psychological Research in Munich,
Germany, invites applications for a

	     Postdoctoral position
	     (4-year appointment, salary BAT IIa/Ib, approx. DEM 71k p.a.)

in the research group "Cognitive Robotics", starting at the earliest
convenience. The position is funded by the European Community in the
project

	     "Artificial Mouse"

as part of the initiative "Neuroinformatics for Living Artefacts". The
project aims at an improved understanding of the somatosensory
(whisker) system in rodents, from transduction to visuo-tactile and
sensorimotor integration. As part of the modeling process, an
artificial whisker system will be developed and tested on a mobile
robot.

Candidates should have a background in signal processing, electronics,
mechanics, and computer science, as well as an interest in
interdisciplinary research in the fields of neuroscience and cognitive
science. Experience with image processing, neural networks, and
robotics is beneficial.

The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of female
scientists and encourages them to apply. Handicapped persons with
comparable qualifications receive preferential status.
