All,

Bucknell University is hiring for a new interdisciplinary faculty position,
see below for more information:

Bucknell University is a private undergraduate-focused institution
comprised of highly-ranked colleges in arts and sciences, engineering, and
management. We invite applications for a John D. and Catherine T.
 MacArthur Professor of Data Science. We seek a dedicated teacher-scholar
with a PhD degree in Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Information
Systems, Statistics, or a closely related field, and welcome applicants
with a broad background. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field,
the position is being jointly supported by the Departments of Analytics &
Operations Management, Computer Science, and Mathematics. The subsequent
affiliation of a successful applicant will be determined in consultation
with the candidate, and a shared appointment between two departments is a
possibility. The successful applicant is expected to have an
interdisciplinary focus and to work closely with departments from across
the University. It is expected that the degree will be completed by the
start of the appointment in August 2020.

We expect to hire at the Assistant Professor level, but outstanding
candidates will be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor
level. We will be accepting external applicants only. The successful
candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary offerings in data science;
these will include courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced
levels. Such courses might include data management, data
visualization, machine learning, data storytelling, or topics courses in
data science; many of these courses will address, to varying degrees, the
intersection of data analytics and ethics. The successful candidate will
also develop a strong body of scholarship in their field of specialization
within data science. There is an active community of faculty and staff on
campus who have been discussing the role of data science at Bucknell, and
the successful candidate would be expected to join and contribute to this
community.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, graduate transcripts
(unofficial copies accepted), a statement of teaching philosophy, and a
research statement that includes opportunities for undergraduate research.
Applicants are asked to summarize in their cover letter any past
experiences and leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion, or their
potential to make contributions in this area. Applicants should arrange to
have three letters of recommendation submitted separately. For additional
information and to apply, please go to Bucknell’s career site (
careers.bucknell.edu). Review of applications will begin no later than
October 15, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.

Questions about the application process should be addressed to one of the
following:
Matt Bailey, Professor of Analytics and Operations (matt.bailey at bucknell.edu
)
Peter Brooksbank, Professor of Mathematics (peter.brooksbank at bucknell.edu)
Brian King, Associate Professor of Computer Science (brian.king at bucknell.edu
)
