comprised of highly-ranked colleges in arts and sciences, engineering,
and management. We invite applications for a John D. and Catherine T.
MacArthur Professor of Data Science. We seek a dedicated
teacher-scholar with a PhD degree in Analytics, Computer Science, Data
Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a closely related field,
and welcome applicants with a broad background. Due to the
interdisciplinary nature of the field, the position is being jointly
supported by the Departments of Analytics & Operations Management,
Computer Science, and Mathematics. The subsequent affiliation of a
successful applicant will be determined in consultation with the
candidate, and a shared appointment between two departments is a
possibility. The successful applicant is expected to have an
interdisciplinary focus and to work closely with departments from across
the University. It is expected that the degree will be completed by the
start of the appointment in August 2020.

We expect to hire at
the Assistant Professor level, but outstanding candidates will be
considered at the Associate Professor or Professor level. We will be
accepting external applicants only. The successful candidate will
contribute to interdisciplinary offerings in data science; these will
include courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Such courses might include data management, data
visualization,
machine learning, data storytelling, or topics courses in data science;
many of these courses will address, to varying degrees, the intersection
of data analytics and ethics. The successful candidate will also
develop a strong body of scholarship in their field of specialization
within data science. There is an active community of faculty and staff
on campus who have been discussing the role of data science at Bucknell,
and the successful candidate would be expected to join and contribute
to this community.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV,
