Assistant Professors in Cognitive Psychology

Two Tenure Track Assistant Professor positions in Cognitive Psychology at Syracuse University. As part of our multi-year hiring plan, the Department of Psychology at Syracuse University invites applications to two full-time, tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant professor. This recruitment is part of ongoing ambitious Invest Syracuse initiatives in (1) Aging, Behavioral Health, and Neuroscience, and (2) Computational Cognitive Science, with one current opening in each area. Candidates must have a program of research with potential to attract extramural funding and be committed to excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, mentorship in undergraduate and doctoral student research and engage in department, college, and university-level service activities.

In Aging, the Department seeks an individual with a research program focused on developing or extending models of human cognition to describe and explain lifespan changes due to aging. We especially seek individuals with expertise in advanced computational modeling techniques.

As an integral part of the Invest Syracuse investment, Syracuse University is recruiting multiple candidates for faculty positions with a focus on healthy aging. Faculty hired into these positions will build on existing strengths in the Syracuse University Aging Studies Institute (<https://asi.syr.edu/)>https://asi.syr.edu/) and will participate in an organized research cluster.

In Computational Cognitive Science the Department seeks an individual who will broaden our existing strength in computational cognitive modeling by being able to operate near the intersection of Cognitive Psychology with domains such as AI, Machine Learning, and Computational Linguistics. This position will leverage the research cluster in AI, Deep Learning & Autonomous Systems, which spans departments in Arts & Sciences, Engineering & Computer Science, Law, and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

In addition to skills and experience specific to their position, candidates should demonstrate excellence in cultural competence, including the ability to communicate effectively with people across cultures. More information about the department may be found at http://psychweb.syr.edu/

Job Specific Qualifications.

The successful candidate will –

  1.  Develop a program of research able to secure sponsored funding
  2.  Teach graduate and undergraduate courses and mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  3.  Engage in committee work and service activities in the doctoral program, department, college, & university
