The Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering at DTU is seeking a qualified candidate for a 6-month research assistant position in neuromorphic computing and signal processing.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Do you have a passion for cross-disciplinary research spanning the fields of biology and engineering? If so, you might be well-suited to join our neurorobotics team within the Automation and Control (AUT) group. When starting a position, you will become part of AUT spanning a wide range of competencies in robotics and autonomous systems. Additionally, you will gain access to state-of-the-art facilities allowing you to develop your technical skills in a productive and motivating environment.

The research assistant position is granted by the Lundbeck Foundation under the LF-Experiment project LOCOPD led by the principal investigator, Associate Professor Silvia Tolu. LOCOPD project focuses on understanding the motor impairments experienced by people living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). The project contributes to the main vision of our neurorobotics technology lab to apply biological control concepts both in simulation and on physical robots to investigate neuroscientific hypotheses on biological processes related to motor control and learning. The research assistant will help the team in the investigation of the breakdown in motor circuitry associated with PD. Their tasks will range from the development of spiking neural networks to the implementation of protocols for testing and analysis of the network output.

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent at the time of recruitment. The ideal candidate holds a degree in neuromorphic engineering, computational neuroscience, or another relevant field.

The candidate should have strong programming skills and experience with signal processing. In addition, the following is highly recommended:

  *   Proficiency in Python and/or C++
  *   Familiarity with Linux
  * Understanding of the human central nervous system
  * Knowledge and implementation experience within spiking neural networks
  * Experience with neural simulation tools (ex. NEST, Neuron, Brian, etc.)
  * Excellent methodological skills and an analytical mindset, ability to work both independently and as a member of a research team
  * Experience with statistical analysis tools
  * Solid communication skills in English, both oral and written
