*Interacting with Neural Circuits*
14 July - 3 August, 2019
Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, Lisbon, Portugal

*Course directors:*
• Leopoldo Petreanu (Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown)
• Menno Witter (Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience)
• Michael Hausser (University College London)

This 3-week course combines lectures from top speakers in the field with a
practical “hands-on” introduction to the latest optical,
electrophysiological, molecular and anatomical methods for probing neural
circuits. Students will first learn the theoretical foundations of the
techniques (weeks 1 and 2), and then perform experiments using different
model systems (weeks 2 and 3). Techniques being covered in the course
include the following:

- 2-photon and 3-photon imaging
- All-optical recording and optogenetic manipulation
- Deep imaging using microendoscopes
- Circuit cracking using expansion microscopy
- Neuropixels recordings
- Transcriptomics and connectomics
