Connectionists: 3 Post-Doc + 2 PhDs in Roland Fleming's lab (Giessen University)

THREE POST-DOCTORAL positions and TWO PhD positions are available in Roland Fleming’s lab at Giessen University, in the context of an ERC-funded project on the perception of shape, material properties and generative processes.

The aim is to bring together an interdisciplinary team spanning visual perception, neuroscience, machine learning and computer graphics.  Accordingly, candidates should have experience in at least one of these areas. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of strong quantitative or computational skills (e.g. deep learning, physical simulation, morphogenesis, procedural geometry).  For the postdoctoral positions, a doctoral degree in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, physics or related discipline is a prerequisite. 

The candidate will have the opportunity to interact closely with the existing team, as well as other colleagues in closely related areas, including Karl Gegenfurtner, Katja Doerschner and Huseyin Boyaci.

The lab offers excellent facilities for studying visual perception and motor control. We are part of several larger research consortia on perception and action (e.g., http://www.sfb-perception.de <http://www.sfb-perception.de/>, http://prism-network.eu <http://prism-network.eu/>) with excellent links to scientists within Europe and world wide. The group offers a stimulating, multi-national and multi-disciplinary research environment for young scientists (http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de <http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de/>).  We routinely have visiting faculty from other leading universities taking sabbaticals or other extended stays in the group.  A 3T Siemens scanner is also in the same building. 

The city of Giessen is a small university town with a vibrant young population, located just 60 km north of Frankfurt.  It is in an excellent location for getting to know the rest of Europe.

The start date is subject to final confirmation from the European Commission, but is anticipated to be August 2016.  Later starting dates can easily be accommodated.

For the post-doc positions, salaries are according to German research scale TVH-13. These positions are for 18 months initially, with the possibility of renewal.  For the PhD positions, salaries are according to the standard 65% positions from the same pay-scale.  Funding is available for 3 year studentships.
