The Brain Work Research Centre at the Finnish Institute of Occupational
Health is seeking for a
SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST
Your task is to lead research on computational data analysis and to devise
new computational methods and build expertise that benefit the research
and services for the needs of the future work life. You will advance the
use of the heterogeneous data sets that have been and are being collected
at the institute, including data sets related to physiology, health,
cognition, work environment, and spanning measurements from laboratories
to work places. You will be responsible for national and international
research collaboration in the topic of the position. You will apply for
funding, lead research projects as well as supervise students and other
more junior staff members. You may participate to education and teaching
within area of your expertise.
We require a doctoral degree in computer science or other suitable
discipline, as well as thorough understanding of computational data
analysis. The senior research scientist should have a track record after
the doctoral degree of successful collaboration in international
multidisciplinary environment as well as of applying for research funding,
managing projects, and collaboration with companies. We require excellent
communication skills in written and spoken English. We may decide to hire
a specialist research scientist (more junior position, doctoral degree
required) for the said position, if the candidate is suitable but does not
yet qualify for a senior research scientist position.
The position is tenured, with a four month probation period. The Senior
Research Scientist is an academic track position, roughly equivalent to
associate professor in a typical university career system. The location of
work is in Meilahti, Helsinki.

The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) is a research and
specialist organization that promotes occupational health and safety and
the well-being of workers. It is an independent institution under public
law, functioning under the administrative sector of the Ministry of Social
Affairs and Health. FIOH has six regional offices, and its headquarters
are in Helsinki. The Brain Work Research Centre (BWRC) at FIOH studies how
brain and senses function and how this is influenced by human and work
related factors. One of the focus areas of the BWRC is the study of human
information processing in the modern and future ICT environments.
