PhD position in computational neuroscience:
Retinal ensemble coding

The sensory physiology group at the University of Oldenburg, Germany
is looking for a motivated PhD student (BAT IIa/2) to participate in the
newly established research unit "Dynamics and stability in retinal
processing". The project will be focused on the question how visual
information is encoded in the spike activity of retinal ganglion cell
ensembles. The PhD student will be mainly concerned with developing
and applying mathematical data analysis methods for signal detection
and signal estimation based on multi-electrode recordings. Moreover,
he / she will perform computational modeling and participate in
electrophysiological multi-electrode recordings from the turtle
retina. Being involved in the research group offers the PhD student
the opportunity to become acquainted with a broad range of neuroscientific
methods and approaches by collaborating with several research groups
in Oldenburg, Frankfurt and Heidelberg. In addition, he / she can benefit
from participating in activities of the international graduate school
"Neurosensory science and systems".

Applicants should have a theoretical background, be highly interested
in neuroscientific and coding questions, and willing to learn
experimental techniques. Basic computer and programming skills are
expected, experience in neuroscience is preferable but not required.
It is mandatory to hold a masters degree or Diplom.
