Postdoctoral Fellowship in Connectionist Modeling and Semantic Memory

We have funding for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of
Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. The stipend is $45,000 per year
plus $2,500 per year for conference travel. There are no citizenship
restrictions.

We are most interested in someone who would like to study issues regarding
the role of semantic factors in word recognition and connectionist models of
the computations involved. Our research incorporates theories and
methodologies from a number of areas, including those typically associated
with connectionist modeling, word recognition, semantic memory, concepts and
categorization, and cognitive neuropsychology. Thus, there is the potential
for working on various projects under the general umbrella of modeling
semantic memory phenomena.

Our department has a number of Cognition faculty, many of whom conduct
research related to language processing and concepts. Thus, our faculty,
postdocs, and graduate students provide a rich research environment. Our
labs are well-equipped for both human experimentation and computational
modeling.

London is a pleasant city of approximately 350,000, and is located 2 hours
drive from either Toronto or Detroit. Note that a reasonable one-bedroom
apartment in London costs approximately $700 per month.
