Dear colleagues,
I would be grateful if you could forward mail this to any strong final year
undergraduates (or equivalent) who are looking to do MSc study in the
machine learning/probabilistic modelling areas.

MSc In Informatics: Learning from Data
--------------------------------------
Division of Informatics, University of Edinburgh
Edinburgh, UK
The Division of Informatics, University of Edinburgh runs a
wide-ranging taught Master of Science (MSc) programme. Within this, the
Learning from Data specialism teaches students about methods from
machine learning, probabilistic graphical modelling, pattern
recognition and neural networks. These methods underpin the analysis
of learning in natural and artificial systems, and are also of vital
importance in the analysis, interpretation and exploitation of the
increasing amounts of electronic data that are being collected in
scientific, engineering and commercial environments.
The Learning from Data specialism comprises eight taught modules, plus
a five month long research project. Of the eight modules, there are
three compulsory inner core modules (Learning from Data 1,
Probabilistic Modelling and Reasoning, Data Mining and Exploration),
and a further two should be chosen from five outer core modules
(Learning from Data 2, Genetic Algorithms and Genetic Programming,
Statistical Natural Language Processing, Database Systems,
Visualisation). The remaining three modules can be chosen from the
whole range of around 50 available MSc modules.
The course is funded by a Masters Training Package from the
Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
We have a number of grants available to support UK and EC students
who have a very good honours degree (or equivalent qualification) in a
numerate area such as Computer Science, Physics etc.
The Division of Informatics at Edinburgh enjoys an international
reputation for its teaching and research. It was awarded the top 5*A
rating in Computer Science in the 2001 UK Research Assessment Exercise.
We also received a top excellent rating in the most recent SHEFC
Teaching Quality Assessment.
