Founded in Paris in 1997, MASA specializes in the production of 
cutting-edge adaptive technologies - software and hardware that seeks to 
emulate and exploit many of the properties of living things. The company is 
heavily research orientated and now employs over 50 people including many 
PhDs from the areas of Artificial Life, Artificial Intelligence, 
Mathematics and Scientific computing. This makes it one of the largest 
laboratories (public or private) of its kind in the world.
In early 1999, MASA opened its British division on the campus of Sussex 
University (Brighton, UK) to take advantage of close links with academia. 
This division has a wide remit and current projects include financial 
prediction, constraint satisfaction, the development of controllers for 
unmanned vehicles, path-finding algorithms and the creation of original and 
powerful tools for industrial combinatorial optimization problems.
As part of its continued expansion, MASA is currently looking for 
exceptional candidates to fill the following posts at its UK offices:
3 Research Scientists. Prospective candidates must have recently obtained 
(or be about to obtain) a PhD or similar high-level research experience in 
a relevant discipline. Ideally, they will have skills in the following 
areas: computing, mathematical modeling and visualization, evolutionary and 
adaptive systems, optimization. They will be expected to perform creative 
research that produces innovative solutions to hard industrial problems 
within commercial constraints. After an initial training period they will 
also be expected to manage 1-2 developers on a day-to-day basis who will 
help them implement their ideas and work with them as part of a team.
4 Developers. Prospective candidates will hold a MSc or equivalent in a 
relevant discipline. Ideally, they will have commercial software 
development experience, but the ability to learn new techniques quickly and 
to understand and implement complex algorithms is more important.
