Announcement of Research Position in Neural Network Research



Neural Network Research Scientist
Communications Research Center
Ottawa, Ontario


Essential Requirements

Doctoral degree or equivalent from a recognized university in Physics,
Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.  A working knowledge of
English or French is required for this position.  Experience in
conducting independent research in the field of neural networks and in
the application of neural networks to problems in pattern recognition
and classification.  An ability to communicate scientific knowledge
effectively, both orally and in writing.  Applicants may be required
to undergo security clearance prior to hiring.

Desirable Requirements

A knowledge of neural network architectures and learning paradigms and
their role in different types of pattern recognition tasks.  A
thorough knowledge of computer systems and operating systems
(WindowsNT, Windows95, SunOS, and/or Solaris), experience with
advanced computer software for the purposes of simulating and
controlling neural network circuitry, experience with the design and
testing of communications devices, experience with digital signal
processing software, and a working knowledge of the MatLab programming
environment.  In addition, the successful candidate is expected to
show a high degree of personal motiviation, initiative, an ability to
work as a member of a research team, and an ability to form and
maintain working interpersonal relationships.

This position is currently funded for a period of three years with a
strong possibility of an extension beyond that period.  The successful
candidate will be paid in accordance with the salary scales
appropriate to the SE-RES-01 category (salary range $37,036 to $48,727
Cdn.) and will enjoy all the benefits associated with that position.

The Communications Research Center is the premier communications
research facility of Industry Canada and is situated at the outskirts
of Ottawa at Shirley Bay.  The CRC shares the research site with the
Defense Research Establishment Ottawa and the Canadian Space Agency's
David Florida Lab.  The site is served by public transportation and is
close to residential neighborhoods with ample rental properties.
