Visiting Research Fellow
The James S. McDonnell Foundation
The James S. McDonnell Foundation, a major
private philanthropy supporting research in
education and the behavioral and biomedical
sciences, is seeking an energetic, resourceful
professional to fill the position of Visiting Research
Fellow (VRF).
The VRF will work closely with the President and
the Program Officer on projects related to the
Foundation's current national and international
programs and assist in identifying new program
opportunities related to the Foundation's interests.
The VRF will be responsible for developing
the Foundation's technological capabilities,
specifically in the use of the Internet and other
communication systems. The VRF will be
encouraged to develop a research project relevant
to the Foundation and the VRF's interests that includes
using the Foundation to develop a model
system of how foundations and non-profit
organizations can best incorporate technology to
achieve their mission and enhance their productivity
and efficiency.
The position will be filled by a recent graduate of a
doctoral program in psychology, cognitive
science or cognitive neuroscience interested in
exploring career opportunities in academic
administration, private philanthropy, or science
policy. The successful candidate must possess
superior oral and written communication skills and
expertise in and enthusiasm for the application
of computer and communication technologies. The
VRF must be able to represent the
Foundation at national and international meetings
with senior representatives of other funding
agencies, senior scientists, and high-level science
administrators. The position is for one year,
with the possibility of renewal for a second. The
anticipated start date is July 1, 1996.
