EPSRC CASE AWARD LEADING TO PhD
Non-Linear Modelling in an Extended Kalman Filter

The Centre for Communications Research at Bristol 
University, in collaboration with The Sowerby Research 
Centre, British Aerospace (Operations) Ltd. have been 
awarded a CASE scholarship by the Engineering and Physical 
Sciences Research Council in the area of non-linear 
modelling.  This research programme will commence in October 
1995 and will continue until October 1998.  

The Kalman filter is a widely used object tracking algorithm 
with applications ranging from industrial robotics to 
aircraft radar systems.  This research programme will 
investigate the application of artificial neural networks 
(and related algorithms) as non-linear modelling devices 
within a Kalman filter framework and will integrate with 
existing research in the area of object tracking and 
identification in  multi-sensor systems.

The studentship will comprise the standard EPSRC award plus 
an industrial supplement. Although the  research programme 
will be based at Bristol University, the student can expect 
to spend at least three months in industry over the three 
year period.  Applicants should possess a good honours 
degree in Electronic Engineering, Engineering Mathematics or 
a related discipline and must be EC citizens.  Please apply
