The Salk Institute for Biological Studies has recently formed a
Center for Theoretical Neurobiology, with funding provided by
the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The long-range goal of this
Center is to develop theoretical foundations for modern
neurobiology. To meet this goal we are seeking applications for
faculty positions. Candidates should possess formal training in
theory and expertise in physical sciences, mathematics,
engineering, or computation, and they should be interested in
applying quantitative skills to a wide range of contemporary
problems in neurobiology. It is expected that Center
theoreticians will develop close ties with existing experimental
neurobiology laboratories at the Salk Institute, and will take a
prominent role in the training of graduate students and postdoctoral
fellows in this area. Women and minority candidates are particularly
encouraged to apply. The Salk Institute is an equal-opportunity
employer.
Participating Salk faculty and interests include:
Thomas Albright Neural bases of visual perception and
visually-guided behavior
Francis Crick Theoretical work on the brain
Martyn Goulding Neural development
Stephen Heinemann Molecular biology of synaptic transmission
Christopher Kintner Molecular biology of neurogenesis in
amphibian embryos
Greg Lemke Developmental neurobiology
Dennis O'Leary Development of the vertebrate nervous
system
Terrence Sejnowski Computational neurobiology
Charles Stevens Mechanisms of synaptic transmission
John Thomas Neuronal development in Drosophila
Applications should include c.v., a statement of research goals
and interests, and copies of relevant publications.
Applications and requests for information should be sent to:
