                    Call for Newsletter Items

     The journal Neural Networks is now adding a newsletter section
to facilitate announcement of items of interest to its general
readership. Examples include, but are not limited to:

~ new industrial applications of neural networks;
~ new discoveries in neurobiology or psychology that are of
interest to neural network researchers;
~ government or international research initiatives that will be
of benefit to the neural network field;
~ activities by special interest groups (SIGs) of the
International Neural Network Society.

We are aiming for our first newsletter section to be part of the
issue of Neural Networks to appear at the World Congress on Neural
Networks July 17-21. The Newsletter Editors are

Harold Szu (representing the SIGs)
Marwan Jabri (representing the Japanese Neural Network Society)
Stephane Canu (representing the European Neural Network Society)
Daniel S. Levine (representing the International Neural Network Society)

     Each of the four of us as editors are allotted a maximum of 2
newsletter pages per issue, and will judge submissions for relevance and
appropriateness. (If one editor receives more than two pages worth of
publishable items and another editor less, some items can be
reapportioned.) Therefore, I am putting out a call for submissions of
items that you wish to publicize ~ preferably in electronic form, to
facilitate forwarding to one of the Editors-in- Chief of the journal.
(Note: this does not include conference announcements, which are already
covered in the journal's current events section.) If you think an item
might be appropriate for the Newsletter but are unsure, please send it
anyway and the Editors will decide collectively on it.

     To facilitate going to the press soon enough for July, we
would like to have items arrive if possible by March 1, 1995. They
can be sent to me at:
