Meeting on Statistics and Neural Networks

                 STATISTICS  AND NEURAL  NETWORKS
                  OPEN  MEETING,  21 APRIL 1995

   An open meeting on the above topic will be held in the premises 
of the Royal Society of Edinburgh under the auspices of the 
International Centre for Mathematical Sciences .  The Meeting will 
follow on from a Workshop in the area and will take  advantage on the 
presence of several distinguished visitors. It is intended that the
presentations will both indicate the cutting edge of current research
at this interface and also be accessible to interested parties from the
wider statistical, mathematical and neural-networks communities. Invited
speakers will include Chris Bishop (Aston), Leo Breiman (Berkeley), Trevor
Hastie (Stanford ), Michael Jordan ( MIT ), Laveen Kanal (Maryland) and Brian
Ripley (Oxford).  In addition, Jim Kay (SASS) will give a perspective of the
main points that came out of the preceding Workshop. It is planned to
provide coffee and tea. Lunch can be obtained at a variety of nearby
