at Caltech
The Computation and Neural Systems (CNS) program at California
Institute of Technology is conducting a search for tenure track faculty.
CNS is an academic program offering a curriculum leading to a Ph.D.
degree. It was established in 1986 as an interdisciplinary program
primarily between the Biology and Engineering and Applied Science
divisions in order to bring together biologists that are investigating
how computation is done in the nervous system and engineers and
scientists that are applying ideas from neurobiology to the development
of new computational devices and algorithms. Appointments will be in
either the biology or engineering divisions, or joint, depending on
the interests of the successful applicant.
The primary intent of the search is for appointments of either a
theorist and/or an experimentalist at the Assistant Professor level,
however, exceptionally qualified senior candidates will also be
considered. The areas for which the search is conducted include:
Learning Theory and Algorithms, Biophysics of Computation and
Learning, Neural Approaches to Pattern Recognition, Motor Control,
Problem Representations and Network Architectures, Small Nervous
Systems, Network Dynamics, Speech, and Audition. The successful
applicant will be expected to develop a strong research activity and
to teach courses in his or her specialty.
Applicants should send a resume, including list of publications,
a brief summary of research accomplishments and goals, and names of
at least three references to:
