We've never allowed xhost, because it's very insecure as the X protocol is
not encrypted or particularly-well authenticated.  If you were able to
use X remotely via xhost, then we'd like to get some information from
you. =-)

Since you're using ssh to connect (correct?), try using the -X flag to
enable remote X stuff via ssh.

  ssh -X foo at bar
