[auton-users] welcome back to campus/new AUTON services and access

If, during the summer, you've changed DSL carriers, changed employers,
obtained new accounts or purchased new machines, and if you now realize you
can't SSH to the lab's servers anymore because those new addresses are not
on the access list, let me know. We want everyone to be able to easily SSH
in from wherever they happen to be working. For this we need you to tell
us the IP address or net block from which you're connecting (or ask me to
help you to figure this information out).

CMU campus is already on the list so there's no need to ask for that. But
note that the CMU-sponsored DSL network has been dismantled over the summer
and so you probably need to tell me what your new DSL line is.

Note that we disable TELNET and xhost forwarding altogether and that FTP
will only work if you initiate it from the "inside" (the lab server) in
"passive" mode. We really should put up a web page telling you how to do
that.

However the linux servers are all on AFS now (do a "klog" to obtain
kerberos tickets). We have also installed a FTP server if you need to
exchange big files with colleagues (ask Jacob to open an account for you
and for the colleague if you need this).

We also have a mailing-list server in place which supports archiving,
posting controls, and web-based configuration. Ask us if you want it to
host your mailing-list.
