Greetings,
Kairos Research (https://kairosresearch.com<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://kairosresearch.com__;!!On18fmf1aQ!ljgTHNEGS2Ldff-tPW06R3CHwr7F1EiYXrodH54mgD1mzK-rXQmvKkrUWmfVr-Rv9XO3$>) is a young and dynamic company based in Dayton, OH, conducting research at the intersection of human and machine cognition. We currently have an opening for a full-time Senior Cognitive Scientist to help lead and grow our expanding portfolio of government-sponsored and internally funded research.
The ideal candidate is a highly creative, self-motivated individual with a strong publication record, an appetite for seeking and winning independent research funding, and an ability to lead multidisciplinary research teams in executing complex, high-tempo projects with concrete milestones. Prior experience working on projects funded by the Department of Defense (DoD) and/or related to national security is a strong plus but not required.
Our recent projects span topics such as collective intelligence in geopolitical forecasting, explainable AI, human-robot interaction, counterfactual reasoning in intelligence analysis, human performance optimization, semi-automated knowledge elicitation, and detection and mitigation of social media threats. Our past sponsors include organizations such as DARPA, IARPA, Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Office of Naval Research.
NOTE: This is a great opportunity for an academic research scientist who is looking for a career change but who wants to continue pursuing original research!
REQUIRED:
1. US citizenship or green card.
2. PhD in Cognitive Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Social-Behavioral Sciences, Human Factors, or related discipline.
3. Experience leading and/or contributing substantially to successful research proposals (need not be defense-related; could include NSF, NIH, etc.).
4. 5+ years direct research experience (includes postdoctoral research).
5. Strong publication record as lead author or senior author in high-impact journals/conferences.
6. Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
7. Strong quantitative / data analysis skills.
8. A highly collaborative mindset.
PREFERRED:
1. Experience with computational modeling of cognitive process (e.g., learning and memory, judgment and decision making).
2. Prior research involving topics at the intersection of human and machine intelligence (e.g., human-in-the-loop active learning, mixed initiative human-machine dialogue, explainable AI, etc.).
3. Experience leading and mentoring junior colleagues (e.g., graduate students, postdoctoral fellows).

Interested candidates should email their CV/resume to Brad Minnery (brad at kairosresearch.com<mailto:brad at kairosresearch.com>), cc’ing techadmin at kairosresearch.com<mailto:techadmin at kairosresearch.com>.
