The proceedings of the latest (current) HFES conference are now online.
They are probably available through your library if they pay Sage, which
most do.  You can also write to the authors, or become a member of the
HFES society.  This is a particularly good deal if you are a student.

Also, Save the dates for the 66th Annual Meeting:

10-14Oct 2022

to multiple requests, we have extended the submission deadline to 30 Nov 21

We are now accepting submissions and pre-conference proposals for the
bi-annual ISRE (International Society for Research on Emotion)
conference. The conference will take place in-person on the 15-18 Jul 22
on the campus of the USC, Los Angeles USA.

The ISRE conference is an exciting opportunity to meet international
colleagues, present your work, and to stay up-to-date with the latest
developments in emotion research. ISRE members study emotions from a
wide range of disciplines including psychology, neuroscience,
philosophy, sociology, linguistics, affective computing, history,
anthropology, art and design. The ISRE conference 2022 will include
keynote addresses by Antonio Damasio, Barbara Fredrickson, and Eran
Halperin.

If you would like to contribute to the ISRE conference by presenting
your research, we invite you to submit an abstract of max. 250 words by
30 Nov 21. Submissions are welcome from scholars in all relevant
disciplines for symposia (of up to four talks and a discussant, or 5
talks), individual talks, and posters. Symposia are encouraged to
include more than one discipline to facilitate cross-disciplinary
exchange. Upload your contribution at the ISRE 2022 conference website.
Please consult the guidelines on the website before preparing your
contribution as submissions are subject to blind review and there are
limits on the number of submissions from a single individual.

If you would like to organize a pre-conference, we will be accepting
proposals up until 30 Nov 21. Please email a 1 page PDF proposal to the
pre-conference chairs, Gale Lucas (lucas at ict.usc.edu) and
Rachael.Jack at glasgow.ac.uk. Proposals should include names and
affiliation of the organizers, a 400 word max description and
provisional line-up of speakers and topics.

All abstracts will be subject to blind peer review by an international
scientific committee; acceptedabstracts will be published in the
conference program. Notification of acceptance decisions will
becommunicated in Feb 2022. Online registration is expected to be
available shortly after that.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in LA in Jul 2022!

As part of our continuing commitment to excellence and equity, we at MIT
CSAIL are excited to announce our second annual Mentored Opportunity in
Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (METEOR) to broaden
participation in computing and AI.

The METEOR fellowship will support exceptional researchers from groups
historically underrepresented in the field. They will conduct
cutting-edge research as part of a vibrant community, and prepare for
careers in academia or industry. Each fellow will be hosted by a
research group with synergistic scientific interests and receive
research training, mentoring, and guidance from faculty researchers at
MIT CSAIL and mentorship from researchers at a partner company.

Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents (green card
holders) or DACA recipients and meet one or more of the following criteria:

 1. Member of an ethnic or racial group historically underrepresented in
graduate education at MIT (Black/African American, American
Indian/Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or other Native Pacific
    Islander, Hispanic/Latinx)
 2. Being of a gender or orientation identity historically
    underrepresented in CS and AI,
including women, trans of any gender, or non-binary
 3. A scholar participating in a fellowship or academic support program
vetted by MIT (CSAIL will verify an applicant’s status while
pursuing a doctoral degree at a US institution)
 4. First-generation college students who were the first in their
families to graduate from a four-year college or university
 5. Experiences overcoming significant challenges in their path toward
graduate school -- examples include but are not limited to:

1. Managing a disability
2. Veteran status
3. Single parent
4. Holding DACA status
5. Financial hardship as a result of family economic circumstances

As with our 2021 fellows, postdoctoral researchers selected this round
will be awarded a one-year funded appointment (renewable for a second
year) and will conduct cutting-edge research at MIT CSAIL on CS and AI
topics of their choice. `

Applications are due 15 Dec. For more details about this program,
eligibility, and the application process, please visit the METEOR
program website.

Sincerely,

Daniela Rus
MIT CSAIL Director

This is just out this afternoon from the AAUP's ACADEME Blog.

“What Instructors Need to Know about COVID-19 Risks”

Thought you might find it useful.  It comes with some nice links. Most
of us are doing all these things already, but, with yet another surge,
thought it was worth sharing an update.

The original title was "Risks from COVID-19 Remain in University
Classrooms Where Vaccination Is Not Required: What Instructors Need to
Know".
