The C ACT-R environment presented at the last ACT-R workshop is now
available on the Web at:

ftp://ftp.andrew.cmu.edu/pub/act-r/ftp/release/CACTUS

A short description is included below. I want to first add a couple of
caveats:

* This system is a subset of the current system, ACT-R 2.x. It does not
include the analogy mechanism and some of the more luxuriant features.

* The availability of a C-based ACT-R system does NOT mean that we are
abandoning the Lisp-based system. Indeed, the next version of the
system, ACT-R 3.0, is implemented in Lisp. It is quite efficient
(compared to the current system, it loads a model about two orders of
magnitude faster and runs one to two orders of magnitude faster) and
will also feature a point-and-click interface. It will be released at
next summer's workshop but may be available in beta test soon.

Happy holidays,

Christian

CACTUS 1.0

CACTUS is a stand-alone Macintosh modeling environment for ACT-R models.
The binhexed self-extracting archive CACTUS.sea.hqx contains a directory
which includes, in addition to this README file, the following files:

% CACTUS : application for 680x0-based Macintoshes
% CACTUS PPC : application for PowerPC Macintoshes
% CACTUS Manual : application manual

Please report bugs to dario+ at cs.cmu.edu.
