		        Opening for a Scientist/Educator at
The Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition (CNBC)
a Joint Center of Carnegie Mellon and
			     the University of Pittsburgh

A Ph. D. Scientist/Educator with a background in COGNITIVE
NEUROSCIENCE is sought to take a central role in formulation and
development of an interactive planetarium show, TRACKING THE HUMAN
BRAIN, funded by the National Science Foundation. The show will
describe how cognition and perception arise from neural activity. The
show will use the dome of the planetarium as a metaphor for the
cerebral cortex of the brain, and will also use a novel interactive
technology to allow members of the audience to participate as neurons
in the simulation of human cognitive and perceptual processes. The
individual hired will be expected to work with a team comprising other
CNBC scientists and artists at the Studio for Creative Inquiry at
Carnegie Mellon University, and science museum professionals at the
Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, to ensure that the production,
which is to be disseminated to science centers world-wide,
communicates essential scientific content in a manner accessible to
the general public. This is a two-year position, and employment would
ideally begin as early as July 1, 1997, but excellent candidates who
may not be available until 1998 are also encouraged to apply. Salary
commensurate with experience.
