Inauguration
                       of
           Brain Science Research Center
                       at
Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology

On December 6th, 1997, Brain Science Research Center (BSRC) had
its inauguration ceremony at Korea Advanced Institute of 
Science and Technology (KAIST).

Korean Ministry of Science and Technology announced a 10-year
national program on "brain researches" on September 30, 1997.
The research program consists of two main streams, i.e., 
developing brain-like computing systems and overcoming brain 
disease. Starting from 1998 the total budget will reach about
1 billion US dollars.

The KAIST BSRC will be the main research organization
for the brain-like computing systems, and 69 research
members had joined the BSRC from 18 Korean education and 
research organizatrion. Its seven research areas are
	o neurobiology
	o cognitive science
	o neural network models
	o hardware implementation of neural networks
	o artificial vision and auditory systems
	o inferrence technology
	o intelligent control and communication systems
