Dear all,
my name is Daniel Hernández-Lobato. I am an associate professor at Escuela Politécnica Superior (EPS), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain.
I have an opening for a PhD position in my research group (http://arantxa.ii.uam.es/~gaa/) focusing on developing new methods for Bayesian optimization.
Bayesian optimization uses techniques from artificial intelligence and machine learning to solve complex optimization problems. In these problems, the objective function is very expensive to evaluate, lacks a closed-form solution, and the evaluations may be contaminated with noise.
Potential applications of Bayesian optimization include tuning the hyper-parameters of machine learning algorithms, finding new materials or developing new drugs, among others.
In this link, there are a few slides introducing this research topic: https://dhnzl.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/slides_bo-1.pdf
The goal during the PhD studies will be to develop new methods for Bayesian optimization.

Monthly gross salary: 2000 euros, for a minimum of 3 years.
Approximate starting date: October 2025.
If you are interested or would like to get more information about the position, please write to daniel.hernandez at uam.es.
Sincerely,
Daniel Hernández-Lobato
