Dear Connectionists,
Today’s dominant frameworks see intelligence as prediction, reward maximization, representation, or efficient coding—yet biological intelligence may point toward deeper, more dynamical principles.
What if we’ve been looking in the wrong place—or missing something hiding in plain sight?
Across disciplines, we glimpse signs: brains that generalize from few examples, remain stable yet plastic, and function under tight energy and physical constraints. But no single theory yet explains how such systems learn, adapt, and act in a world that is dynamic, noisy, and embodied.
That’s why we’re launching a Research Topic on Principles of Biological Intelligence—to bring together perspectives from neuroscience, control theory, machine learning, cybernetics, and beyond. Unlike a routine call for papers, this is a call for dialogue and collaboration: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/68549/principles-of-biological-intelligence
We invite you to contribute:
*
Thought and conceptual pieces
*
Empirical studies and modeling work
*
Interdisciplinary or speculative proposals
