ALIFE 2025 Workshop on Mortal Agents in ALIFE: Physical, Psychological, and
Social Death in the Machine (Kyoto, Japan)
The deadline for the ALIFE 2025 @ Kyoto workshop has been extended.
The new deadline is August 31. We look forward to your submissions.
Title: Mortal Agents in ALIFE: Physical, Psychological, and Social Death in
the Machine
Date: 2025 October 6-10 (detailed schedule would be announced soon)
Location: Kyoto, Japan
This workshop explores cognitive processes from the perspective of Mortal
Agents—creature-agents with physical bodies, psychological minds, and
finite lifespans. With advanced AI and robotics emerging, this workshop
examines the implications of mortality in artificial systems.
This workshop aligns with ALIFE’s foundational focus on survival, from
homeostasis to evolutionary adaptation, by introducing the emerging “Mortal
Agents” perspective. As interest grows in mortality within artificial
agents, ALIFE’s “life-as-it-could-be” paradigm offers a critical space to
explore life, death, and persistence in synthetic systems. The program
includes a keynote and panel bridging science and art, examining life-like
qualities in robots.
We warmly invite submissions addressing topics including (but not limited
to): artificial life, robotics, computational neuroscience, artificial
intelligence, and art.
