POSITION: Research Associate in the field of Artificial Intelligence and
Machine Learning
LOCATION: Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts
(HSBI), Bielefeld, Germany

Full-time, to start immediately
Fixed-term until 30/06/2029
Salary grade: E13 TV-L

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With more than 10,000 students, Hochschule Bielefeld – University of
Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) stands for highest standards in
teaching, research and knowledge transfer. Its six faculties Design and
Art, Minden Campus, Engineering and Mathematics, Social Sciences,
Bielefeld School of Business and Health work in an interdisciplinary,
research-based and closely linked manner. Regional and international
cooperation as well as practised diversity and sustainability shape the
work at the campuses in Bielefeld, Minden and Gütersloh.

Within the framework of the research project "FH-Kooperativ 2-2023:
Cognitive Edge Computing for Multi-Sensor Applications with Sparse Data
and High Latency Requirements" (Edge4SparseML), funded by the Federal
Ministry of Education and Research, the Faculty of Engineering and
Mathematics seeks to fill two positions as

*** Research Associate in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and
Machine Learning (ML) ***

to start immediately. As part of the employment, candidates will be able
to do a (cooperative) doctorate.

The research project's aim is to develop a method toolbox to efficiently
run AI/ML procedures on resource-limited hardware for real-time
applications. Based on the toolbox, it intends to investigate automated
methods to explore the design space of suitable Al/hardware combinations
in terms of a hardware/AI co-design. Particular emphasis lies on
industrial applications with high latency requirements, considering both
the complete chain as a linear process from modelling to inference and
the repercussions of the choice of possible hardware configurations on
the original modelling.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Scientific activities within the framework of the project:
- Project coordination, public relations, science marketing
- Development of concept and requirements analyses in the domain of
surface vision, definition of assessment criteria for hardware and software
- Preparation of AI processes for multi-sensor applications with high
latency requirements in surface vision
- Demonstrator development and validation
- Development of process models
- Knowledge transfer/publications
- Instruction of student and research assistants

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REQUIREMENTS

university of applied sciences) in the field of engineering, computer
science, data science or a comparable discipline
- Experience in writing academic texts and presenting research results

Position 1:
- Expertise and experience in cognitive edge computing, embedded systems
and design space exploration
- Research focus: Hardware/Al co-design and automated design space
exploration of embedded systems

Position 2:
- Expertise and experience in AI/ML procedures, data science, big data
- Research focus: Evaluation of tailored ML procedures for industrial
applications with high resource efficiency and latency requirements
