Special Session "Network Science Meets AI" @
ESANN 2025 - European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks,
Computational Intelligence and Machine Learning
23-25 April 2025
Bruges (Belgium) and Online
This session will be part of ESANN 2025, held in Bruges, Belgium and online
from April 23-25, 2025. It aims to explore the promising intersection
between Network Science and Artificial Intelligence, delving into areas
like representation learning for hypergraphs, deep learning models for
higher-order interactions, and optimizing GNN architectures using network
science principles. We are looking for contributions that demonstrate how
AI can advance the understanding of complex networks and how insights from
network science can support the development of AI methods.
Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:
- Optimizing GNN architectures using Network Science principles
- Novel message passing schemes inspired by complex network dynamics
- Topology-aware neural network design
- Representation learning for hypergraphs and simplicial complexes
- Deep learning models for higher-order interactions
- AI-driven prediction of network evolution
- Deep learning approaches for temporal network embedding
- Neural ODEs for network dynamics
- Explainable graph machine learning algorithms
- Explainability techniques for graph machine learning
- Network Generation and Synthesis
- Topological analysis of deep neural networks
- Transfer of network science objectives to deep learning (e.g. community
detection, influence maximization, epidemic modeling)
- Theoretical foundations of graph machine learning methods
- Causal discovery in complex networks
- Topology-aware optimization algorithms
Instructions for authors: Papers must not exceed *6 pages*, including
figures and references. Papers submitted to the special session must be
identified on the paper submission form. The review process is
single-blind. LaTeX and Word style files are available. They must be used
for generating the PDF file (see below). However, the use of LaTeX is
strongly encouraged, and the use of Word is discouraged as the latter
usually generates many difficulties when the final proceedings are
generated. More details on the template can be found here (
https://www.esann.org/author_guidelines)
The deadline for paper submissions is *November 20, 2024*. I would be
thrilled if you could submit your work or share this call with colleagues
who might be interested.
Best regards,
The Organizing Committee of the Special Session "Network Science Meets AI":

- Fragkiskos D. Malliaros, Université Paris-Saclay
- Ingo Scholtes, Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg
