Connectionists: Full Professor Position in Edge AI at U. Innsbruck, Austria

The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of 

  University Professor of Computer Science with focus on Edge AI
  AIM AT Endowed Professorship for Edge AI

at the Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Mathematics.
Computer Science and Physics.

It is a position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities’
Act (Universitätsgesetz - UG) and will be based on a civil-law
employment contract with the University on the basis of the Salaried
Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). The contract will be concluded for
an unlimited period; the extent of employment is 100%.

The tender takes place within the framework of an endowed professorship
funded by the “Artificial Intelligence Mission Austria Support
Initiative (AIM AT Förderinitiative)“, financed by the Austrian Future
Fund, supported by the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment,
Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK).

The position integrates into an attractive environment of existing
activities including machine learning for robotics and computer vision,
IoT Edge-Cloud-Computing, HPC and low-power sensor technologies.

Responsibilities include research and teaching in the area of Edge AI,
for example on the following topics:

• federated machine learning
• energy efficient and fault tolerant methods of machine learning 
• elastic, scalable, flexible, secure and data protection-compliant edge
  computing
• load balancing, scheduling, optimization and resource planning
• algorithms and architectures for specific applications of edge AI,
  e.g. in traffic management, manufacturing or medical technology
• resource constrained embedded machine learning

Collaborations with research groups at the Department of Computer
Science, the Research Areas and in particular with the Digital Science
Center of the University as well as with business, industry and
international research institutions are expected. The candidate should
reinforce or complement existing strengths of the Department of Computer
Science.

Teaching comprises courses in all degree programs of computer science,
especially at the Bachelor level and in the area of artificial
intelligence and edge computing. Additionally, supervision of Bachelor,
Master and PhD theses is expected.

This position also involves contributions to academic administration and
self-governance as well as to the department’s and faculty’s working
groups.

Employment requirements include

a) a degree in higher education in Austria or the equivalent abroad,
   pertinent to the position;
b) pertinent habilitation or comparable qualification (e.g. senior
   lecturer, associate professor);
c) publications in leading international peer-reviewed academic
   journals;
d) proven competence in Edge AI methods;
e) evidence of involvement in international research;
f) relevant international experience;
g) experience in acquiring and managing external research funds;
h) experience in application oriented or interdisciplinary contexts
i) pronounced teaching skills; 
j) management skills;
k) the ability to teach in English;
l) The ability to teach courses in German and English or, if necessary,
   the willingness to learn German for use in the context of university
   tasks.

remuneration group A 1, i.e., for a full-term professorship the basic
