We are looking for motivated PhD students in the fields of
reinforcement learning, fairness and mechanism design at the
university of Neuchatel.
This project is about developing reinforcement-learning based AI
systems that directly interact with some segment of society. The
applications include matching and other allocation problems. The
research will be performed at the interface between reinforcement
learning, social choice theory, Bayesian inference, mechanism design,
differential privacy and algorithmic fairness. The research will have
both a theoretical and practical component, which will include some
experiments with humans. However, a good theoretical background in
probability, machine learning or game theory is necessary for all
students.
Neuchatel is a vibrant, affordable lakeside city at the Jura mountains of
Switzerland, with short connections to Zurich, Lausanne, Fribourg and Bern.
The positions are available from January 2024. The PhD lasts for 4
years and includes a small teaching component. To apply, send an email to
first.lastname at unine.ch with the subject "PhD Application FairRL".
Please include:
1. A statement of research interests.
2. A detailed CV.
3. A transcript of your diplomas.
4. Your Master/Diploma thesis, and any draft or published papers.
