Within the context of the European project HACID (Hybrid Human-Artificial Collective Intelligence in Open-Ended Domains, http://www.hacid-project.eu), we are seeking motivated researchers to join the ISTC-CNR team in Rome and/or Bologna, Italy.
There are multiple open positions to work on different parts of the project. The salary will follow Italian standards and will be adapted to the seniority level (from a net minimum of 1425€/month for PhD students).
HACID develops a novel hybrid collective intelligence for decision support to professionals facing complex open-ended problems, promoting engagement, fairness and trust.
The focus of the research positions is the study of knowledge graphs, user interaction and collective intelligence methods in the context of two application domains: medical diagnostics and climate change adaptation and risk management.
A description of the different profiles is provided below.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. KNOWLEDGE ENGINEERING AND MACHINE LEARNING
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will study and develop methods and techniques for automatic knowledge extraction from a vast amount of scientific and grey literature. The goal is creating semantic knowledge graphs to support collective intelligence methods.
Requirements:
- Experience in ontology modelling and usage of semantic web technologies;
- Knowledge of ML and NLP techniques;
- Excellent programming experience (Python and/or Java)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. METHODS FOR COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will develop methods for the elicitation of knowledge and the aggregation of the opinions of expert users. The collective solution must be obtained through suitable algorithms for aggregating opinions, thanks also to the support of domain knowledge formalised in a semantic knowledge graph.
Requirements:
- Experience with semantic web technologies;
- Experience in graph theory/network science;
- Programming experience (Python and/or Java)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. USER INTERACTION DESIGN FOR COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will develop a dashboard for visualisation and interaction with knowledge graphs. The dashboard will have to enable the selection by domain experts of concepts relevant to the case study, presenting these concepts in a dynamic and usable way. The activities include the experimental validation of the dashboard to test its usability and consistency, in interaction with the HACID team for the different case studies.
Requirements:
- Experience in user interaction design;
- Experience in the design and implementation of interactive data dashboards, using open-source libraries and frameworks (e.g. D3, Kibana, Tableau, etc.);
- Excellent programming experience (Python and/or Java)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO APPLY
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Positions will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. Starting date as early as possible.
