-----------------------------------------------------------------
Spectral Analysis of experimental neural signals:
Fundamentals and phase dynamics
-----------------------------------------------------------------

at the Computational Neuroscience Conference
in Leipzig, Germany (July 15 - 19, https://www.cnsorg.org/cns-2023)

The spectral analysis of observed neural activity is essential in
most experimental neuroscience research. To work with the
meanwhile large number and types of spectral analysis techniques,
it is important to understand in detail the fundamental aspects of
sampling theory, Fourier analysis, and non-Fourier analysis.

The tutorial will start with sampling theory and Fourier analysis
of regular and non-regular sampled data. Subsequently, it will
introduce to Fourier-motivated analysis methods for non-stationary
signals, e.g., different spectral power measures and different
time-frequency analysis techniques (windowed Fourier transform
and continuous wavelet analysis). In this context, the notion of
instantaneous phase will be explained and discussed in detail
(Hilbert Transform, Phase-Amplitude coupling).

The discussion of the topics will touch on theoretical aspects
but will focus on more practical issues. It will be a hands-on
tutorial with much information known from practice.
