Connectionists: Cybernetics

Despite its long history, cybernetics remains the single best framework for our field. It is broad enough to encompass biology, neuroscience, artificial/natural intelligence (possibly including all mental phenomena), computer science, politics and economics. Yet it is specific enough to implement things that actually work.

I believe that if we ever achieve anything resembling AGI, it's generality will come from goal-oriented behavior (a kind of feedback control).

Sean,

What a wonderfult find!

I believe this is most likely a precursor to the Macy meetings 1946-1953, which was run by McCulloch.
It included the wonderful list from Wiener of the areas that "have obtained a degree of intimacy".

These meetings became called by the attendees-- CYBERNETICS.. and of course is the precursor to AI and Neural Networks, computational neuroscience etc..
