Dear Colleagues,

We would like to announce a research topic in Frontiers, entitled:

"The Roles of Self-organization and Sensory Adaptation for Locomotion in Animals and Robots"

The goal of this Research Topic is to consolidate topics related to “Self-organization and Sensory Adaptation for Locomotion”, in order to encourage the acceleration of collaborative approaches between the fields of biology and robotics.
This Frontiers Research Topic invites research articles on recent results in biology and robotics in terms of experiments, measurement, analysis, design, control, and development with the goal of better understanding the role of self-organization and sensory adaptation in animals and translating them to robots.

This includes, but not limited to:

-walking, rolling, swimming, flying robots
-soft robots
-locomotion gaits
-swarms of robots
-motion patterns
-synchronization
-control and learning algorithms
-central pattern generators


A Research Topic works as a Journal Special Issue, therefore it welcomes contributions in the form of Original Research, Reviews, Methods, Perspectives, and Hypothesis and Theory article types.

Submission Deadline: 20 December 2022

Please note that the review process will start immediately after the manuscript submission, therefore accepted papers may appear online also before the submission deadline.
