Connectionists: Open PhD position in scalable, efficient machine learning

We are looking for excellent and highly motivated PhD students to join the Scalable Machine Learning group in the Department of Computer Science, Ruhr University Bochum.

As a PhD student, you will work on developing state-of-the-art machine learning models that can scale while being energy-efficient. These models will be based on core design principles of sparsity and asynchrony and take inspiration from biology/neuroscience. The work will be done in collaboration with academic and industry groups that develop biology-inspired low-energy neuromorphic hardware.

The appointment will be for three years, starting as soon as possible. Salary is 75% of salary scale TV-L E13.

Candidates for this post should possess the following:
   - A very good Masters's degree in mathematics, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
   - Excellent programming skills (Python preferably).
   - Good knowledge of applied mathematics and computer science.
   - Ability to learn quickly and work independently, as well as in a team.
  
Preferred qualifications include:
   - Interest in interdisciplinary research questions and cooperation.
   - Hands-on/research experience with deep learning.
   - Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch/Tensorflow/JAX.
   - Good communication and teamwork skills.
   - Experience or willingness to collaborate with a wide variety of interdisciplinary partners.
