Call for 3 Tenure-Track Positions in Data Science and Artificial
Intelligence

The Positions

The Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM, for its acronym in
Spanish) at University of Chile is offering three full-time permanent
positions (tenure track) to carry out research and teaching at both
undergraduate and graduate level in the areas of Data Science and
Artificial Intelligence (DS&AI). The candidates are expected to develop a
strong and competitive research program. The official call (in Spanish) can

The Candidates

Candidates should be pursuing internationally recognized research in
Theoretical or Applied Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The
specific areas of interest include (but are not limited to) Machine
Learning, Representation Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Planning,
Knowledge Representation, Knowledge Discovery, Data Mining and Data
Visualization, as well as applications of them to other areas in Science
and Engineering. The interdisciplinary nature of the candidates will be
especially valued.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellence in
research with publications in prestigious DS&AI venues (conferences or
journals). Successful candidates will be expected to move to Santiago,
Chile (if currently living elsewhere), establish and lead their own
research team, deliver innovative research at the highest international
standard, deliver high quality teaching, supervise undergraduate, master
and PhD students, and obtain competitive research funding from external
funding bodies.

application include: (1) Curriculum Vitae, (2) Cover Letter with a
Statement of Purpose, (3) Research Plan, (4) Teaching Plan (Undergraduate
and Postgraduate), (5) The three most relevant publications, (6) Citation
Report (Web of Science and Google scholar), (7) Three recommendation
Letters, (8) Copy of the Ph.D. Degree Certificates. Recommendation Letters
should be sent by the recommender to concurso.academico at ing.uchile.cl
mentioning the name of the candidate and the Positions’ code (FM2007).

In case of equality of background and final scores among applicants, the
gender policy implemented by FCFM will be applied, selecting the female
candidate.


FCFM and the DS&AI Initiative

FCFM is the leading Engineering School in Chile. It has been in existence
for over 175 years and it is focused on higher education and on the
development of basic sciences, engineering sciences and technological
applications.

FCFM have recently approved the creation of a Data Science and Artificial
Intelligence Institute, with members from several Departments, including
the Mathematics (dim.uchile.cl), Computer Science (dcc.uchile.cl),
Electrical Engineering (die.cl), and Industry (dii.uchile.cl) Departments.
The selected candidates will be part of this new DS&AI Institute and will
be interacting with professors from all the mentioned departments in basic
and applied research.
