Dear Connectionists

We invite contributions to the methods collection in the video Journal *JoVE
*on the topic Computational Psychiatry (
https://www.jove.com/methods-collections/111/computational-approaches-to-psychiatry
)

ABSTRACT
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Computational psychiatry is a rapidly growing branch in the field of
psychiatry for its ability to unravel the underlying neural mechanisms
governing behavior. Though computational neuroscience has been
well-established and applied extensively to study various aspects of
cognition and behavior, it is still emerging in the field of psychiatry.
Computational approaches have provided critical insights and novel theories
about neural mechanisms ranging from decision making to ocular dominance,
to gait and movement in health and disease. The field of computational
neuroscience is diverse with approaches ranging from abstract reinforcement
learning, to network-level models using differential equations, to
data-driven models such as drift-diffusion models and Bayesian models.

This collection invites articles where diverse computational approaches are
applied to understand how neural mechanisms translate to observed clinical
symptoms. The topics include, but are not limited to, impulsive-compulsive
disorders, personality disorder, and schizophrenia. The methods of approach
include detailed biophysical models such as Hodgkin-Huxley networks that
explain the cellular level activity to abstract dynamical systems-based
models that focus on high-level behavior. Studies that focus on
translational research where insights gained from computational models are
used to design novel treatment/ diagnostic methods are also welcome.
