Connectionists: Open position: Digital image processing and deep learning of clinical and biological data

The successful candidate will be a part of machine learning research team
at Institute of Clinical Medicine, Pathology and Forensic Medicine,
University of Eastern Finland, to develop novel artificial intelligence
systems in personalized medicine for the purpose of accurate disease risk
prediction and patient outcome analysis. Upon success in the first months
of the project, a PhD position can be offered:

Duties and responsibilities:
- Interpretable, explainable and scalable machine and deep learning systems
for the interpretation of large scale medical images (i.e. mammograms).
- Transfer learning and development of robust machine and deep learning
systems that can be practiced in clinical settings.
- Multi-modal deep learning algorithms for medical images and related omics
data (e.g. single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and clinical data).
- Producing manuscripts to be published in premier journals and
international conferences.

Essential requirements:
- A master’s degree in computer science or related fields.
- A sufficient machine learning and deep learning background.
- Proven knowledge (e.g. as a part of master’s thesis or similar research)
in deep learning, and medical image analysis (e.g. segmentation,
registration, feature extraction, and modelling).
- Excellent in English oral communication and written skills.
- Excellent programming skills, especially in Python.

Additional plus requirements:
- Experience within a multi-disciplinary research environment.
