This is part of a call for 3 permanent academic posts. All posts are available at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer/Reader (equivalent to Assistant or Associate Professor), subject to eligibility.  The salary will be on the Research and Teaching Grade, level 7, 8 or 9: £35,210 - £39,610 / £43,266 - £50,132 / £51,630 - £58,089 per annum.

We are looking for outstanding academics who can work in our Information, Data and Analysis Section in areas such as Machine learning, Information Retrieval, Vision and Sensor-based systems and Data Systems, to develop, lead and sustain research of international standard in Data Science & Media; to actively engage in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and to play a role in developing and executing School strategy, management and organisation.

The School has existing strengths in information retrieval and machine learning applied in contexts such as politics and social media, recommender systems, music information retrieval, conversational interaction and search. As part of our plans to expand our research and teaching activities in this area and collaborate more closely with our neighbours at BBC Scotland, we aim to recruit 3 new staff in the topics of Information Retrieval/Machine Learning/Data Systems. Our primary criterion is academic excellence in the areas above, and we are especially interested in applicants that have the potential to expand our existing strengths in media (including Social Media) and data science, including but not limited to topics such as:

* core machine learning technologies (e.g. graph convolutional networks, architectures for multimedia (video or audio) content)
* conversational interaction and search
* explainability/interpretability/ethics in information retrieval and/or machine learning, algorithmic bias, especially applied in a media context
* data science for communications media
* information retrieval from digital archives
* data science for politics and social media
* social media search & analytics
* music information retrieval
* algorithmic content generation
* personalisation including (context-aware) recommendation systems/interaction
* large-scale data and/or information retrieval systems
* user engagement modelling and predictive analytics
