Details

The department of Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence,
Tilburg University, invites applications for a postdoctoral position
on a two-year project in collaboration with the Dutch e-Science
Center. The candidate will carry out research on applying multi-task
learning techniques to understanding spoken language based on visual
and other auxiliary signals. This project will combine ideas, methods
and data from Natural Language Processing, Speech Recognition and
Computer Vision.

Requirements

- PhD degree in computational linguistics, machine learning, speech
and audio processing, or a related field.
- Interest in and ability to carry out internationally competitive
research, demonstrated by publications in top conferences and
journals.
- Experience with deep learning models and toolkits (such as Pytorch
or Tensorflow).


What we offer

- A full-time position for two years.
- The position will be ranked in the Dutch university job ranking
system (UFO) as researcher. The starting gross salary for a full-time
appointment is (minimally) €3,389 in scale 10 up to (maximally) €3,773
gross per month (maximum €45,276 per year).
- A holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% (annually).
- Tilburg University is one of the best non-profit employers in the

model for terms and conditions of employment and reimbursement of
moving expenses, also including excellent technical infrastructure,
savings schemes and excellent sport facilities. The collective labor
agreement of the Dutch Universities applies.
- Researchers from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a temporary
tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. The
University will apply for such an allowance on their behalf.
- The University will provide assistance in finding suitable
accommodation (for foreign employees).

Starting date

The start of the employment is negotiable, but preferably close to May 1, 2019.

Department

The selected candidate will be hosted at the department of Cognitive
Science and Artificial Intelligence at Tilburg University. The
department emphasizes innovative research spanning a wide array of
fields including computational linguistics and language technology,
data-science, human-robot interaction, virtual reality and serious
games. CSAI is a member of the Benelux Association for Artificial
Intelligence, participate in the Special Interest Group for AI (SIG
AI), and participate in the Confederation of Laboratories for
Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe (CLAIRE). Tilburg
University and the CSAI department offers a vibrant international
environment, with current CSAI staff originating from over 10
countries.

The candidate will work with Grzegorz Chrupała (assistant professor at
Tilburg University, project PI), Afra Alishahi (associate professor at
Tilburg University) and an engineer at the Dutch e-Science Center.
