The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of a

UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR of

COMPUTER SCIENCE

WITH A FOCUS ON DATA SCIENCE

at the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. The position will be based on a permanent civil-law employment contract with the University according to § 98 University Law.

The professorship is embedded in an appealing environment of existing competencies close to the field of data science, e.g. in the areas of robot learning, computer vision, simulation and visualisation, information retrieval and recommender systems as well as high-performance computing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate should represent the area of data science in research and teaching in various fields such as:


  *   Data Mining on large amounts of data for the extraction of significant findings
  *   Machine learning for pattern recognition, prediction and decision making
  *   Data-based adaptive, self-learning and self-optimising systems
  *   Development of numerical and statistical methods scaling on Big Data.

Co-operations with research groups at the Department of Computer Science, the research areas of the University as well as with economy, industry and international research institutions are expected. Co-operation with the newly founded Digital Science Centre DiSC is intended. The candidate should reinforce or complement existing strengths of the Department of Computer Science.

Teaching comprises holding courses, especially in the area of Data Science. This includes all degree programs of computer science, the teaching degree in Computer Science for secondary schools as well as courses for the Digital Science Centre. Additionally the supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD theses is expected.

Beyond research and teaching, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the strategic advancement of the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics, as well as to the academic self-management of the department and the faculty.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS


a)    a pertinent degree in higher education in Austria or the equivalent abroad in Computer Science or a similar field;

b)    a pertinent habilitation or equivalent qualification;

c)    exceptional scientific qualification in research in the area of Data Science documented through publications in leading international peer reviewd journals and conferences.

d)    experience in scientific project management and the acquisition of research funding;

e)    proven involvement in international research;

f)     excellent didactic skills;

g)    Management qualification and social competencies.



Thematically relevant experience in the cooperation with industry and experience abroad are desirable.

The basic salary is laid down in the collective bargaining agreement for university employees. Professors are in the remuneration group A 1. For the position the monthly salary before tax is 5.005,10 Euro (14 x per year). Depending on qualification and experience a higher salary can be a topic in the negotiations with the rector. ·         A list of scientific publications, presentations and other scientific works and projects;

·         A description of past, current and planned research activities;

·         Details regarding teaching activities so far;

·         Details regarding the acquired third-party funding;

·         A teaching and a research concept for the advertised position;

·         A list of the five most important works.
