Dear Connectionists,
We are pleased to announce the publication of the electronic proceedings
of the XXX (30th) Canary Islands School of Astrophysics on Big Data,
Machine Learning and Neural Networks
in Astronomy, which was held in Tenerife,
Spain, in November 2018. These proceedings consist of three parts,
namely (i) introductory papers by each of the five lecturers, (ii) video
recordings of the 20 lectures delivered during the school, and (iii)
presentation files used in the lectures, as well as notes for the
tutorials.

The lecturers and topics were:

S. George Djorgovski (CalTech, USA):
General overview on the use of machine learning techniques in astronomy

Mario Juric (Univ. Washington, USA): Data challenges and solutions in
forthcoming surveys;

Dalya Baron (Tel Aviv University, Israel): Machine
learning methods for non-supervised classification and dimension
reduction techniques;

Michael Biehl (Uni. of Groningen, the
Netherlands): Supervised learning: classification and regression;

Marc Huertas-Company (IAC Tenerife, Spain): Deep learning.

We envisage this collection of training material to be a powerful
resource for self-study by both starting and experienced colleagues who
wish to learn more about Big Data in astronomy and how to handle it.
