PhDs are starting in*November 2018 with a 3 years scholarship*;
expiration date for first level applications: *May 15th, 2018* on the
following research areas:
* Big-data techniques for crowd behavior analysis in smart environments
* Automatic learning of dynamic jamming models for physical layer
security in Cognitive Radios
* A machine learning approach for interaction detection in egocentric
videos
The PhD scholarships are available within the Joint Doctoral Programme
in Interactive and Cognitive Environments (JD ICE) that is a PhD
programme organised by the Department of Electrical, Electronic,
Telecommunications Engineering and Naval Architecture at University of
Genoa, theCentre for Intelligent Sensing at Queen Mary University of
London <http://cis.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/> and theIntelligent Systems Lab of
the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid <http://www.uc3m.es/islab>.
General information
Applications are invited for PhD open positions. JD ICE provides PhD
training in the fields of multimedia signal processing, data fusion,
computer vision, cognitive dynamic systems and machine learning, and
offers advanced research projects designed for ambitious students
willing to become word-leading researchers. PhD students will benefit
from a joint-supervision model and will spend main part of their PhD
programme in Genova, Italy with a 12 months (minimum) mobility to the
secondary institution.
The ISIP40 group, active in the DITEN department in the Faculty of
Engineering of the University of Genoa has focused its attention mostly on:
* Cognitive Dynamic Systems
* Multisensor Signal Processing for Surveillance
* Software and Cognitive Radio
* Bayesian Object and Situation assessment
* Interactive and Cognitive Environments
Open positions for PhD (dottorato di ricerca)
PhD course starts at the beginning of November 2018; expiration date for
first level applications:*May 15th, 2018*in the following research areas:
1. *Big-data techniques for crowd behavior analysis in smart
environments*: this research theme will study novel signal
processing techniques based on probabilistic graphical models and
dynamic Bayesian networks for understanding dynamics of cognitive
systems and learn how to transfer this acquired knowledge;
2. *Automatic learning of dynamic jamming models for physical layer
security in Cognitive Radios*: this research theme will study
algorithms and methods for cognitive radio terminals for
opportunistic spectrum usage to optimize transmission rate and
external attack robustness;
3. *A machine learning approach for interaction detection in egocentric
videos*: wearable cameras stand out as one of the most promising
devices for the upcoming years, and as a consequence, the demand of
computer algorithms to automatically understand the videos recorded
with them is increasing quickly. An automatic understanding of these
videos is not an easy task, and its mobile nature implies important
challenges to be faced, such as the changing light conditions and
the unrestricted locations recorded.
