1 Postdoc position on visual inspection for the textile industry - [ Postdoc ] CB
Workplace: IIT - Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Genova, Italy
The Pattern Analysis and Computer Vision department (PAVIS) at IIT is looking for a highly qualified postdoc with a strong background in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, with particular emphasis on automatic visual inspection applications and other related areas (e.g., recognition, video analysis, etc.).
The main mission of PAVIS is to design and develop innovative image- and video-based intelligent systems, characterized by the use of highly functional smart sensors and advanced data analytics features. PAVIS also plays an active role in supporting the other IIT research units providing scientists in Neuroscience, Nanophysics and other IIT departments/centers with ad-hoc solutions.
To this end, the group is involved in activities concerning computer vision and pattern recognition, machine learning, multimodal data analysis and sensor fusion. The lab will pursue this goal by working collaboratively and in cooperation with external private and public partners.
This call aims at consolidating PAVIS expertise in the research area of automatic visual inspection in the context of highly efficient industrial applications. The research theme is related to the creation of a system that can inspect material on the textile industry, in particular, yarn control in all its aspects (waste estimation, bale quality control, neps detection, etc.).
This likely implies the development of state-of-the-art and novel algorithms for detection, classification and quality control that should work in a highly automated industrial scenario, in the context of Industry 4.0 framework. In particular, we deem that this inspection problem will require the joint study of computer vision algorithms with machine learning approaches, both traditional and deep learning. This project will be carried out in collaboration with a major industrial partner.
Candidates for this position should have a Ph.D. in computer vision, pattern recognition or related areas, and research experience and qualification should follow the same lines. Good programming skills in Matlab and C/C++ are also required; knowledge of OpenCV will be considered a plus. Evidence of top quality research on the above-specified areas in the form of published papers in top conferences/journals and/or patents is also mandatory.
Experience in funded research or industrial proposals (EU, US, national), and a few years of postdoc experience, either in academia or industrial lab, will also be duly considered.
He/she is expected to publish his/her research results in leading international journals and conferences, attend project meetings and writing reports, supervise PhD students and collaborate with other scientists, also with different expertise.
Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience and in line with international standards.
Further details and informal inquiries can be made by email to pavis at iit.it quoting PAVIS- BC 75046 as reference number.
Please, send your application request to pavis at iit.it quoting PAVIS- BC 75046 in the subject line as reference number. Applications must include:
a curriculum listing all publications (possibly including a pdf of your most representative ones)
a research statement summarizing your research interests, previous research experience and accomplishments, and outlining its relevance to the above topics
the names of 2 referees.
This call will remain open and applications will be reviewed until the position is filled, but please apply by March 15, 2018.
