PhD Position: Computational approaches to the neural control of movement

We are seeking UK/EU candidates for a fully funded PhD position at the
School of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Leeds. The successful
candidate will work with Dr. Ioannis Delis and will have the opportunity to
interact and collaborate with other members of the Motor Control group.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in some of the following areas:
Recording and analysis of EMG, EEG and kinematic signals, design of complex
behavioral experiments/tasks, biomedical signal processing, machine
learning, statistical pattern recognition, cognitive modeling. No extensive
previous experience in the above is required. However, a strong propensity
for interdisciplinary research and a keen interest in understanding how the
brain controls movement as well as extensive programming experience (Matlab
and/or Python) is highly desirable.

Interested candidates are invited to contact Dr. Ioannis Delis
(*i.delis at leeds.ac.uk
<i.delis at leeds.ac.uk>*) emailing their CV and briefly explaining their
interest in this position. Starting date is flexible (September 2018 would
be preferred).

Project description: The aim of this project is to develop a mathematical
analysis framework to a) analyze neurophysiological (EMG/EEG) and
behavioural signals (kinematics/accuracy/response time) and b) model
sensory-motor behavior in order to understand how the human brain and
spinal cord interact with the musculoskeletal system to generate movement.

The post holder will have the opportunity to a) develop new advanced
methods based on machine learning, signal processing and information
theory, b) design and perform behavioural experiments with human subjects
and c) analyze experimental data in collaboration with
experimental neuroscience laboratories.
