Research Fellow: Connected Autonomous Vehicles
Salary: £32,548 - £38,833
Duration of post: Fixed term period 1yr 0mths
Closing date: 29 Aug 2018
About the post: The Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) is currently a key
partner in three Innovate UK-funded Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV)
research and development projects. They each have a differing
application focus but they are all aimed at bringing this exciting new
technology closer to fruition in a safe and useful manner for society as
a whole.
These are grand aims, and there is a great deal of important
theoretical, but especially carefully directed experimental work to be
carried out at both technical and societal levels; the outcomes need to
be both technically correct and also acceptable to society. The work to
be carried out in these projects is wide ranging, from conducting
probing questionnaire-led participant interviews to experiments in a
comprehensive vehicle simulator and in a variety of real-world roadway
and pedestrian-area prototype autonomous vehicle trials. An essential
part of the post holder's role will be to undertake software design and
programming of the BRL CAV simulator, and some aspects of the real
vehicles as required, with support from others.
All of this work needs careful coordination, and this will be a major
part of the tasks for the person taking this post. Apart from taking a
key role in running the existing projects, there is a highly active
process of bidding for new CAV projects, and helping to lead this
activity will be another crucial role.
Applicants must be working towards completion, or have completed a PhD
in Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) or an appropriate technical
topic that can be transferred to CAV design and development.
A recognised English language qualification is required.
