A fully-funded PhD Position is available in the Robotics and Intelligent Systems group at the University of Oslo, Norway (http://www.mn.uio.no/ifi/english/research/groups/robin )
The main objective of the project is to increase access to mental health services for common mental health problems by developing technology which can guide patients with limited or no therapist support through a treatment process adapted to each user. The specific goal of the PhD project is to contribute to developing a patient monitoring and support system that consists of collecting data from the patient for modelling behaviour and emotional state, to be used for prediction and adaptation of the treatment. The work would be building on the state-of-the-art knowledge in sensors, apps, behavioral models and machine learning.
The PhD project is connected to and include collaboration with researchers in the Research Council of Norway funded project INtroducing personalized TReatment Of Mental health problems using Adaptive Technology (INTROMAT, see www.intromat.no<http://www.intromat.no> ). The project – led by Haukeland University Hospital, aims at developing technology that can analyse the user's voice, movement and other properties, and use that for modeling and predicting how these changes with the mental condition. Smartphones and wearables are relevant for data collection, and the system should provide the user with appropriate support and follow up schemes. In the application, please briefly describe the relevance of the Master thesis work and other project work relevant for the position.
The fellowship will be for a period of 3 years with a potential for a fourth year for duty work (see announcement for details).
More details about the position is given here: http://www.mn.uio.no/ifi/english/research/doctoral-degree/seven-phd-research-fellowships-in-informatics/projects/p24-robin-mental-health-tech.pdf
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in computer science including machine learning/artificial intelligence (other degrees would be considered if qualifications match). Thus, applicants should have a strong background in programming and machine learning/artificial intelligence. Moreover, knowledge in the fields of human behaviour tracking and analysis, sensor data analysis, biology-inspired techniques, behavior modeling, and app development would be an advantage. A number of partners are involved in the project so collaboration skills would also be assessed. The applicants would be competing with candidates applying to other announced positions at our department. Thus, having international scientific publications would be a strength.
Pay grade: NOK 432 700 - 489 300 per year, approx.: $50,300 – 56,900 / €47,000 − 53,200 (depending on qualifications and seniority)
